WHAT IS IT?

Double Vision is the result of an investigation done about the optical properties of different printable surfaces, which when combined, make of the act of photographing an active process of discovery.

When we take a photo of an object like a painting on a canvas, a poster, or any printed surface in general, the photo always shows us what is visible “on the surface”. We can make a zoom, and more details will appear, but they still belong to what is potentially visible. Double Vision radically overcomes this limitation of photography. It is a composite surface, composed by two superimposed layers with printed images, one visible (“A”, in front), and one invisible (“B”, behind). At normal eyesight, only the front layer is visible. But when you take a photo of it with flash (smartphones, any model), the invisible layer becomes visible in the photo. It virtually makes of any smartphone a “X-Ray” device!

WHAT ARE ITS APPLICATIONS?

Due to its distinctive features, Double Vision may provide multiple applications in fields as diverse as museography, education, visual arts, or advertising. It enriches the experience of the observer by creating a “double reading”. The visible layer “A” can be completed, complemented, or replaced by the contents of the hidden layer “B”. A typical example can be the comparison between present and past status of a building or an historical landmark. Thus, it engages the observer in an interactive relationship of discovery. Double Vision makes of photography not just a passive medium for registering what is visible, but an active medium for revealing what is invisible.
