Double Vision is an active medium for discovering new realities and creating everlasting aesthetic experiences
WHAT IS IT?
When we take a photo of an object like a painting on a canvas, a poster, or any printed surface in general, the photo always shows us what is visible “on the surface”. We can make a zoom, and more details will appear, but they still belong to what is potentially visible. 2Vision radically overcomes this limitation of photography. It is a composite surface, composed by two superimposed layers with printed images, one visible (“A”), and one invisible (“B”). At normal eyesight, only the front layer is visible. But when you take a photo of it with flash (smartphones, any model), the invisible layer becomes visible in the photo. It virtually makes of any smartphone a “X-Ray” device.

CONCEPT

The exponential development of internet, digital media and social networks has transformed us in passive consumers of images, which are produced and shared in an incessant, endless flow. We are not any more conscious of photography in its original sense, as an active medium for discovering new realities and creating everlasting aesthetic experiences.
2Vision is a way of giving back photography this original status. It is the result of a systematic process of analysis of the possibilities offered by the combination of analogue and digital techniques. It gives the observer the possibility of engaging and taking part in the creation of contents which transcend the passive role of the mere consumer, going “behind the surface” and making of the simple act of taking a photo an active process of discovery. Hidden worlds, narratives and layers of information are thus revealed, either in the form of historical time-traveling, addition of visual contents, or storytelling animation.

WHAT ARE ITS APPLICATIONS?

Due to its distinctive features, 2Vision may provide multiple applications in fields as diverse as museography, education, visual arts, or advertising. It enriches the experience of the observer by creating a “double reading”. The visible layer “A” can be completed, complemented, or replaced by the contents of the hidden layer “B”. A typical example can be the comparison between present and past status of a building or an historical landmark. Thus, it engages the observer in an interactive relationship of discovery. 2Vision makes of photography not just a passive medium for registering what is visible, but an active medium for revealing what is invisible.
